It took about 4 hours and it came out perfect. I have Dan Erlewine's book. If I screw up, a tech refrets it, and I have new tools. The price of a refret is higher, but when you go with a refret using EVO or Stainless Steel wire, the end result is way, WAY more longevity of your frets.   On refrets I’m still having issues with the edges of the frets on a refret. I’ve been using sandpaper on a sanding block and trying to hold it at the perfect angle, and sanding the fret edges down to the fretboard so that it’s one clean level surface. But I think I’m not holding the angle well enough – I think it’s changing.

Poor Man's Fret Job: In this instructable I will attempt to give a down and dirty process for re-fretting a guitar and filling in the gouges on the fret board. DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for damage to your instrument. The name of the game here is 'carefully'. Re-fretting establishes a completely new playing surface, enabling us to correct the subtle changes which happen inevitably to the fingerboard and neck wood overtime. This allows for a perfect setup and string action, giving you amazing playability. The geometry of the instrument shifts over time. Wood moves. Our complete Re-Fret & Pro Setup includes a freshly surfaced fingerboard, new frets.

That same superlative staff of crack tradespersons has performed a perfect refret and which enables this guitar to play like Smart Balance® on a barber pole. It happens to sound brilliant, and is a guitar that, after only one passionate strum, make you crave it like Mark Antony craved both Cleo and Patra. FENDER. Review by Jo: "Perfect Regret" is the second book in the "Bad Rep" series but it can be read as a standalone. This book focuses on the story of Riley and Garrett. Riley had her life all planned, she knew the path she was going to follow and nothing and no one was going to get in her way.

Well that is until Garrett came along.4/5. Refretting correctly is a precise job that requires patience, careful measuring and following several processes step by step. If the fretboard already has the grooves for the frets, all you have to do is place the new ones in the old grooves and glue them properly.

Performing a complete refret job is about as big as a job can be in guitar lutherie – but don’t let that scare you away. If it’s done poorly, you can usually salvage the job by pulling the frets again and giving it another try. It’s an extremely valuable skill to have, and the core requirement for a perfect action.

The next step is when the frets are starting to show a small flat area on the top. This is where problems begin. As the flat spot on the top of the fret perfect refret book, the sustain begins to diminish slightly (guitarists will notice that the strings seem to wear out quicker: this is because the strings are contacting a larger surface and more string is in contact with the frets.

This book was absolutely amazing and I am dying to read more!. My heart broke in two when the ending of this book suddenly crept upon me. The story line makes you think a lot: how we treat our pets, how we treat people, etc. These people treated their HUMAN pets like a /5.

32soundz, #   You'll refret when you can no longer level the frets because they're too worn. as the possibility of introducing a radius etc you're more comfortable with leaves you with your guitar in pretty much perfect playing condition with years of life in it.

I guess you could use ptfe on it but, its best to get well made new parts in my book. If there''s not enough material for this, then a refret is required. New frets can usually be leveled once or twice, depending on their height.
